Located in Wilmington, North Carolina, the New Hanover County Arboretum is a seven-acre sanctuary of natural beauty and tranquility.


Established in 1989, this hidden gem offers an array of themed gardens, showcasing more than 4,000 varieties of native and naturalized plants.


Visitors can explore the diverse landscapes, including an aquatic garden, children's garden, herb garden, Japanese garden, and rose garden​s.

Each season at the arboretum brings a unique display of colors and flora. In spring and summer, the gardens are adorned with blooming azaleas, roses, and a variety of bulbs, while the fall and winter seasons highlight the beauty of camellias and other hardy plants.


The arboretum is designed to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Children will delight in the dedicated children's garden, complete with interactive features and cozy corners.


Throughout the year, the arboretum hosts seasonal art exhibits and the annual Master Gardener Association plant sale, offering a chance to purchase locally grown plants and receive expert gardening advice​.
