The hidden gem Greek island just a £14 ferry ride away from Santorini

This little hidden gem is a beautiful Greek island, home to stunning beaches and a relaxed atmosphere, with ferry rides from Santorini starting at just £14.

Often called a hidden gem in the Cyclades, it offers an authentic Greek experience that’s different from popular tourist spots like Mykonos.

If you're looking for luxurious hotels and modern amenities, nearby islands like Milos might be a better choice. But if you want a peaceful getaway with charming cobbled streets and Greek salads praised as the best in Orthodox Christendom, this hidden gem is the perfect destination.

The island is rich in history, with an archaeological museum and an abandoned Venetian castle in the old town. Psathi village’s necropolis and the ancient tombs near Kambana beach are also worth visiting, according to travel experts.

Chorio Village, the island’s capital, showcases the classic Cycladic white and blue stone houses, dotted with several churches and traditional narrow streets.

Food lovers will enjoy the fresh seafood and classic Greek dishes, or you can try local tapas and raki. Visitors highly recommend trying the local cheese pie, called tyrenies, available at bakeries across the island.

Several beaches are just a short drive from the village, with Agios Giorgios, Alaki, and Kalamitsi being some of the best spots to relax by the sea.

Many visitors also enjoy a sea taxi ride to the nearby uninhabited island of Polyaigos, known for its beautiful turquoise waters and dramatic coastline.

The fastest way to reach Kimolos is by flying from Athens to Milos, a neighbouring Cyclades island.

For those wanting a break from the busy streets of Santorini, ferries to Kimolos start as low as £14, though the average ticket price is around £32.

The ferry journey covers a distance of 58 miles and typically takes about six hours and 10 minutes. Once you arrive, you can explore the island by bus, car, or taxi.
