A terrorist attack has shaken an aerospace facility in Turkey's capital, Ankara, with fears of multiple casualties, the country's interior minister has confirmed.
An explosion has hit the country, and reports suggest it was a suicide bombing at a major aerospace facility.
Social media reports indicate gunfire was also heard at Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) in Ankara, and the government has confirmed that lives were lost in the attack.
Turkey's Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, stated: "There has been a terrorist attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ) Ankara Kahramankazan facilities. Sadly, we have lost lives, and others are wounded in the attack.
"I offer my condolences to the families of our martyrs and wish a quick recovery to those injured. Updates will be provided, and please follow official sources for accurate information."
Security forces were quickly sent to the area, and workers were directed to shelters after the explosion.
Details are still coming in about the incident, including the number of people affected.
Local news suggested that hostages may have been taken and as many as ten people could have been killed.
Reports also indicate that the situation at the facility is ongoing, with possible hostages, though this has not been confirmed.
Footage shared on social media shows a series of loud bangs, reportedly captured by a bystander, followed by a large explosion.
The video shows the blast setting off car alarms as frightened pedestrians hide behind parked vehicles some distance away from the facility. A man, possibly holding a gun, is seen running across a parking lot after the explosion.
An image circulating on social media shows a man holding an assault rifle, which, although not confirmed, is believed to be the gunman.
