Remote island growing in popularity with Brits as a dream honeymoon spot

A new study has revealed a honeymoon spot that more and more Brits are now thinking about for their special post-wedding trip.

Every year, thousands of newlyweds head off on holiday after their big day, visiting sunny places all around the world, from the Caribbean to Asia and Europe. But now, there’s a lesser-known island that’s catching the attention of British couples looking for something a bit different.

According to a report by Scenic Cruises, Mo'orea in French Polynesia saw the biggest rise in online searches in 2024 compared to 2023—with interest jumping by a huge 200 percent.

Mo'orea is in the South Pacific Ocean and is famous for its beautiful beaches and tall, green volcanic mountains. It’s a long way from the UK, though—the journey can take around 30 hours from London Heathrow with a few flight changes before you finally arrive on the island.

The report came after Scenic Cruises created a list of possible honeymoon destinations. They added the word “honeymoon” to each place name and then used Google Keyword Planner to check how often people searched for them over the past four years.

They looked at which places had the biggest increase in search numbers to see which destinations are becoming more popular for honeymoons.

The results showed that Athens, Budapest, and Dubrovnik all had double the searches, as did Quebec in Canada, Saint-Tropez in France, and Tokyo in Japan.

Tahiti, which is also in French Polynesia, saw a 56 percent rise in interest, while Barcelona and Lombok in Indonesia had a 50 percent increase in honeymoon-related searches.

Top things to do in Mo'orea, according to Tripadvisor, include going up to the Magic Mountain Overlook and the Belvedere Lookout for amazing views of the island and ocean. The island also has some top-rated beaches and fun activities like snorkelling and canoeing.
