The trend of building mountainside escalators in China shows no signs of slowing down!
A new 1,100-foot-long escalator has been constructed on Tianyu Mountain in Zhejiang Province, costing $2.2 million (£1.6 million). The ride, which cools visitors with a mist, takes them close to the summit.
The escalator provides an alternative to a 50-minute hike up a three-kilometer road, with the ride lasting just 10 minutes and costing 30 yuan ($4.32/£3.30). It has quickly become popular, often operating at full capacity.
Supporters praise the accessibility it offers, making the peak more reachable for those with physical challenges.
One commenter noted the escalator allows people with mobility issues to enjoy the experience without the difficult climb.
However, some critics argue that it diminishes the natural beauty and adventure of reaching the top on foot.
The escalator at Enshi Canyon, which cost approximately £4.3 million ($5.6 million), takes 18 minutes to complete its journey from start to finish.
It has the capacity to transport around 7,300 people per hour, moving visitors from the top of the site down to the canyon floor.
One user even joked that someday escalators might appear on Mount Everest, illustrating concerns about overdevelopment.
